Romanza is based on the piano introduction of Ives’ song, “Romanza di Central Park.” A four note figure from the song’s third measure is a constant motif throughout the duo. At its conclusion, the introduction is clearly heard though in a distorted time frame. Another version of this piece is the concluding movement of Ives Music #1.
