These two songs have somewhat unconventional texts. The first song, Love's Insomnia, employs only eight words-love/I/you/do/not/know/how/so. The second song, Corta Madera, March 23, 1969, is a setting of a letter to my brother and I from Charles (Charlie) Mott, a graduate of Cornell, Class of 1903. We had sent him a "ribald" card for his 90th birthday and this was his response to us. The songs were commissioned by Thomas Buckner, who gave the first performance.
